Everyday Aussies can invest in a new food delivery company on track to make an eye-watering $3.5 million revenue in 2024. Start-up Delidoor has launched a crowdfunding campaign to further develop the thriving business. Founded in lockdown by two French entrepreneurs, Mathieu Thomas and Jacques Lépron, Delidoor boasts high quality, nutritious home cooked frozen meals. And for those of us who need a little help, they also do Christmas deliveries! Here, Lifestyle News talks to Jacques about the business, which delivers more than 25,000 meals around Australia ever month.

Q: Were you surprised by the success of Delidoor?

A: Not so much in the sense that we knew, we were addressing a real problem that was there before COVID and would still be there after.. This problem is that many busy people struggle to find time to plan, shop and cook good and nutritious food.

The alternative solutions are not always good and healthy (takeaway, Uber Eats) and meals kits still require you to cook.

So we knew that if we had a good product addressing a real problem experienced by many households, it would work. And to date, I've got to say that it has worked. Now I am not saying it was easy :-) Q: How is Delidoor different from other frozen meals you can get home delivered?

A: There are not many options in Australia when it comes to frozen meals home delivered. The majority of prepared meals are "fresh" mostly because Australia has always stand for "fresh is best".

As such, frozen food has always been labelled as bland, industrial and full of nasties. Which is still a bit true when you look at the basic options you find on the supermarket shelves. When we launched Delidoor we decided to focus primarily on making nutritious, delicious and clean food.

We do it by using real and fresh ingredients, without adding additives or preservatives. We also leverage the unique know-how of our executive chef Sebastien who has years of experience in preparing excellent food meant to be frozen, which is very different than cooking fresh food

Q: Why are you launching a crowdfunding campaign?

A: We grew fast since our inception ($2.67m revenue in FY23 from $140k in FY21). We are now cooking / delivering 25,000 meals a month. But we want to accelerate our growth by: 1. Launch a complete single serve meals for younger professionals and seniors with requirements for NDIS / homecare funding, 2. Develop new recipes to cater for various moments of the day and wee, so our menu keeps growing. 3 Launch a Food Concierge powered by AI to help households when it comes to meal planning and ordering.

Q: Why did you decide to offer Christmas deliveries?

A: We knew there was a massive demand from people who want to offer a memorable experience to their loved ones for Christmas, but don’t necessarily have the skills or time to get everything ready.

So we decided to put together an amazing Christmas menu so our clients could offer an unique experience without the hassles.

We will have our special Christmas menu that is only available for the Christmas period. This includes a delicious 5kg Glazed Ham prepared by the Chef (it is not sold frozen but fresh), our range of Stuffed Turkey Breast with Cranberries & Chestnuts Stuffing and many more unique main dishes, entrees and desserts Q: Tell me about some of the meals Delidoor offers?

A: We have a range of 120+ meals covering various meals moments and needs. This includes family meals, kids friendly, plant-based meals, no gluten added, vegetarian, dairy free,... currently, we have the largest range of frozen nutritious, delicious and preservative free in Australia.
