PARTY-READY SKIN: 7 SIMPLE TIPS TO STAY RADIANT THIS SUMMER
Summer doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your skin health for fun in the sun. Multi-award-winning Skin & Dermal Therapist Isabella Loneragan shares her top 7 tweaks to keep your skin radiant, hydrated, and glowing all party season. “It’s all about prevention and protection,” says Isabella. From perfecting your SPF routine to easy lifestyle changes, these tips will ensure your skin looks as fresh as your festive spirit and party-ready.
1. Hydrate inside and out
Drink plenty of water and pair this with topical hydration. Incorporating a lightweight moisturiser into your daily routine can work wonders to combat the dehydrating impacts of summer, maintaining skin hydration without feeling too heavy. A quality lightweight moisturiser will keep skin balanced without feeling oily.
2. SPF is non-negotiable for party-ready skin
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and increase your SPF rating and commitment, even on cloudy days. This is a non-negotiable MUST! Even if a ‘hybrid skin-makeup’ product such as a foundation claims to contain SPF, apply a layer beneath your makeup because no foundation formula can contain adequate SPF protection.
3. The vitamin C boost
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from external and environmental factors, including sun exposure and pollution. Therefore, vitamin C should be a key part of your daily summer skincare routine, and it will keep your skin looking bright and even-toned. Niacinamide serum is also recommended during summer to help reduce pigmentation.
4. Exfoliate
It’s best to exfoliate once or twice a week during summer to remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, and enhance the effectiveness of other skincare products you’re using. No matter the season, avoid scrubs! Instead, use fruit enzyme-based exfoliants. Scrubs are far too harsh on the skin’s barrier.
5. Protect your eyes
The summer sun means more squinting, leading to fine lines around the eyes. Invest in a quality eye cream to keep the delicate skin around your eyes hydrated and protected.
6. Eat the rainbow
Brightly coloured fruits and vegetables aren’t just a feast for the eyes; they’re rich in antioxidants that can help protect your skin from oxidative stress. Think berries, citrus fruits, spinach and carrots to nourish your skin from within.
7. Don’t forget your hands
While we often focus on faces, hands are equally vulnerable to sun damage. Apply SPF to the backs of your hands daily, especially if you’re driving, to prevent premature ageing and pigmentation.
